The Environmental Management Bureau MIMAROPA Region, through its Environmental Education and Information Unit, conducts the International Lead Poisoning Prevention Week 2023: An Awareness Raising Activity at the San Agustin Commercial Complex in San Agustin, Romblon.

San Agustin Municipal Administrator Johnny Jesalva gave his welcoming remarks during the opening ceremony. In his speech, he encouraged the cooperation and partnership of everyone towards a more competent approach in protecting the environment.

Next, Environmental Monitoring Officer (EnMO) Jose Marie Fabito of EMB MIMAROPA Region gave an Introduction to Climate Change during the International Lead Poisoning Prevention Week 2023: An Awareness Raising Activity being held at the San Agustin Commercial Complex in San Agustin, Romblon today, October 26.

Following this, Ms. Mabelle Manalo, Chief of the Regional Environmental Education and Information Unit of EMB MIMAROPA conducts a lecture on Ecological Solid Waste Management of 2000 or RA 9003.

Over 80 participants from various barangays joined the event. During the activity, participants received learning kits composed of eco notebooks, eco ballpen, plantable pencils, reduce plastic consumption flyers, climate change brochures, gender-fair language brochures, and building a safe space brochures. This comes as a part of everyone’s shared responsibility towards the upliftment of public health and the environment.

This Information and Education Campaign (IEC) initiative equips barangay officials of San Agustin on various environmental laws and GAD mandates, and enables the sectors of the community to be aware of what are the environmental issues/problems that we are experiencing right now and how to mitigate/combat them.

The said awareness raising activity is being conducted in line with the annual environmental celebration of International Lead Poisoning Prevention Week happening every 22nd to 29th day of October.
