In order to establish baseline data on air quality status in the province of Oriental Mindoro relevant to the recently observed smog across Metro Manila and nearby provinces, the Environmental Management Bureau MIMAROPA Region’s Ambient Air Monitoring Team established an air quality monitoring station at Muelle Port in Brgy. Poblacion, Puerto Galera at September 23, 2023

An air quality sampler was installed to monitor PM10 in the area for 24 hours. PM10 (particulate matter 10 microns), are very small particles with a diameter of 10 micrometers that can be found in dust and smoke. Such contaminants can be released from various sources like engine combustions and natural causes like volcanic emissions.

Said installation is conducted as part of EMB MIMAROPA Region’s efforts towards effective air quality management as mandated by the Philippine Clean Air Act of 1999.
