The Environmental Management Bureau MIMAROPA Region, in collaboration with the Pollution Control Association of the Philippines, Inc. (PCAPI) MIMAROPA Chapter, hosted the 9th Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Pollution Control Officer Summit on 08-10 November 2023 at the Heritage Hotel Manila, Roxas Boulevard, corner Epifanio de los Santos Ave., Pasay.

The three-day summit aims to orient and capacitate EIA practitioners/professionals, project proponents, Pollution Control Officers (PCOs), educators, other stakeholders, and the regulated community on the policy updates in relation to the Philippine Environmental Impact Statement System (PEISS), which is within he EMB’s mandate. Policy updates from other DENR Bureaus were also covered during the summit.

On November 8, participants were given a lecture on PD 1586 Policy Updates by a Resource Speaker from DENR Central Office. Engr. Jose Reynato Morente also gave a lecture on the Impact Identification and Assessment. During the Day 1 of the EIA Summit, a plaque of appreciation/recognition were awarded to Engr. Morente and Engr. Briccio Abela for their support and contributions to the EIA and PCO Summit of EMB MIMAROPA Region for the past 8 years.

For Day 2, six topics were tackled for both the morning and afternoon session. For the morning, participants learned more about: NWRB Water Permit Application, DENR Policy Updates, MGB Policy Updates. For the afternoon, another three topics were discussed namely: Reclamation Permit, Guidelines for the Re-use of Wastewater for Irrigation and Other Agricultural Purposes (DA Administrative Order No. 26 Series of 2007), and DOT Mandates and Permits for Tourism and Leisure Projects.

For Day 3, the discussion started with a presentation on the Types of Wastewater Treatment Processes by Engr. Carlito M. Santos, Jr. and Climate Change Adaptation by Mr. Jeremiah Cabatuando of EMB MIMAROPA Region. Also included in the program is the recognition of the best practices from the Industry Awardees for Toxic and Hazardous Waste Management, Air and Water Quality Management, Solid Waste Management, and the Recognition of the PCO/Industry for the Three Consecutive Years of Compliance.
